RELATIONSHIPS

Relationships come in many different forms.  There are healthy relationships, short-term, long-term, temporary, employment, family and so very many types of relationships. The best relationships are well meaning and made in Heaven.

Let me give you and example of a Heaven made relationship, in the Bible Jesus tells a story of the "Good Samaritan."(Luke 10:30-37) Here you have a Jew (most Jews hated Samaritans) found helpless and broken laying to the side of the road. He had been badly beaten and left dead by robbers. Other Jews went by him without stopping, in fact these particular Jews were religious leaders of their day and they still did not stop to help their dear hurt brother. Each Jew that went by had their own exscuse why not to help. Sometime later, a Samaritan came by picked up the Jew who was hurt, took him to a Inn to be treated for his wounds. The Samaritan even paid extra to the Inn keeper to watch over the Jewish man so he would not remain broken and in so much pain.

I find there are so many correlations between the religious Jews of that time and the people who call themselves religious today. Obviously, the Samaritan who was so despised and hated by the Jews performed the greatest act of love towards God by caring for a person who even despised him. That is a heaven made relationship.

You see, many today are like the Jewish persons who passed by their fellow Jew and had an exscuse not to help. Also many today are heading in an awful direction of self destruction through their own actions.

The Bible teaches that whatever a man sews, so shall he reap.

Also today, too many people are looking for other people, things, objects that will bring what I call "surface gratification." That is, in relationships, people try to find someone to make them feel better for a moment and then when that person does not fulfill their instant or surface gratification any longer, they are dumped like yesterday’s garbage.

The Bible says that true religion is taking care of orphans and widows. In our western societies, those are the ones so often thrown into that aforementioned "garbage." Now the portion of being religious is not only to feed widows and orphans but as well to help  anyone like them, anyone who is in need. In last month's newsletter I shared that there are many lost and hurting people out there. They all need  the love of Christ. Some will surely reject God's love, reject His plan of salvation, even reject us, but that should never deter us from showing the love of Jesus Christ.

Our love resembles “good fruit” as the Bible puts it. A person’s fruit is what we produce from our actions. Remember, we reap what we sew.

The Bible specifically speaks of good and bad fruit. In regards to relationships, healthy relationships always have all persons involved wishing the best for all involved. They never want to use the other person for their own personal gain, although because of our sin nature this happens from time to time, but on the most part we avoid this action because it always evolves into bad fruit. Another important step to remember is, when this happens, to repent and forgive, because that is what our Lord Jesus commanded us to do. God knows our sinful hearts and what stuff we are really made of so we need to be ready to repent and forgive at all times.

By now, you are seeing that healthy relationships take work – at times, very hard work – and takes the dedication of more than one person involved.  An example of the most beautiful dedicated realtionship I can think of is between us and Jesus. He freely died on the cross for our sins. A selfless act. An act of compassion and truth. A selfless love in one that cares and action that says “I love you” (good fruit).

We rarely see acts of genuine love anymore – inside or outside the body of Christ. Too many people are too busy to be involved in their own lives to care much about others, especially others who are suffering. "Those people" take time, energy and resources (money). But that’s not what God wants, He wants us to be a light, a light that shines in an ever dying world.

Here, I want to share a little story of how much love I recently felt  from the body of Christ in the Philippines on a ministry trip there last fall. I met with a group of pastors and they said to me that I had "more of a heart of a Filipino than an American" (no offense to my  fellow Americans please). So they changed my name from "Pastor Paul" to "Pastor Pablo."  How dear and precious this was to me. Another church there "adpoted" me and gave me "full rights and benefits" along with their other church members, allowing me also to preach there at any time. In other words an open pulpit. They trust me so much they are open to hear me share and to encourage them at anytime. They went on to share it was my heart they noticed that was always in concern and compassion for the people of the world especially the Filipinos. They said they also recognized that it was the Lord's work I was doing and my good fruit was evident despite one person they knew who opposed me. For sure it was the Holy Spirit working within me to help me, to guide me in doing those things which brought God's favor and blessing and all that good fruit.

Again, it is our fruit that will determine which way our relationships head. If we want loving relationships, we will certainly sow good seed and reap a harvest of good fruit. On the other hand, if we sow bad seed, we will ceratinly gain nothing good whatsoever and will probably have sown and reaped discord, hate, evil, unforgiveness and so on.

For Global Family Outreach Ministry, we pray the Lord to use us to work hard to provide good fruit by labouring with you in establishing Godly relationships around the world.

If you want to also deepen your relationship with Jesus as Lord and Savior or to share a concern you may have, we would love to hear from you. We want to encourage you to write us at paul@gfom.org or write to us at GFOM, P.O. Box 31, Attica, NY 14011.  Either way we want to see you encouraged and equipped through the Holy Spirit to live Godly lives.

Lastly, would you please prayerfully support this minsistry. I (Paul) have been invited back to evangelize in the Philippines in May, 2008 and am yet to have all my support to go. Also we are in need of a laptop computer and other items listed under "needs" so please help us with our expenses, especially for the Children's Feeding Centers (see video).

In Christ,
